Can't hear music cd's

I just installed a Creative 52x cdrom as the slave to my cdr drive.
Every thing is connected properly, however if I put in a music cd it
won't play through the speakers. My games all play and sound fine, but
the only way I can hear music cd's is through the headphones. I've
checked my settings in WinAmp and it's setup to play. Can anyone shed
some light on this?? I've even swapped the sound cables between the two
drives and it made no difference.
