xp locks when music CD iserted into CDrom drive

I have a Mitsumi cdrom player and a Plexter 8/4/32 cd burner hooked to a
Promise Ultra 100 controller card.
Data disks work OK, but when I insert a music cd Win XP just locks up. This
happens on both drives.
These worked great on Win 98 SE. Sounds play from Windows media player with
no problem.
Can anyone help.
