I was reading a collection of stories by Susan Orlean when I ran
across one she wrote about the Shaggs. According to Frank Zappa,
inventor of the Mothers of Invention, the Shaggs were better than the
Beatles. According to another listener, “I would walk across the
desert while eating charcoal briquettes soaked in Tabasco for 40 days
and 40 nights not to ever have to listen to anything Shagg-related
ever again.”
