I am an inspirational song writer - I could not give lessons because I don't know how I do it. On the other hand we have a current thread - song idea, title or lyrics anyone? with a set subject. I have been avoiding reading other replies whilst I tried to produce some lyrics. Here I am into songwriting as a craft, and I have not been doing very well. Exercising mind or muscle improves ones ability. The 50 song competition puts you into songwriting as a craft territory. You have to seek inspiration, not wait for it to come. It actually changed my attitude to life, at least for a while. I wandered around looking at the world through songwriters eyes. Hence I came up with songs on such unlikely subjects as pigeons attempting to shag on a sloping roof. Perhaps you cannot see the point, because you have not been there and looked. If you search the archives you will find that the experience has changed me. You will see that quite often I have read a post here and turned it into a song. Usually they are very bad songs, to fit in with the genre "Deliberate corn". Sometimes I think we may have hit paydirt, like with Sean's 1st demo version of "Seaside man". I think that only needs a little re-ordering of verses and a few adjustments to make that a "Hit", at least with fans of the genre. I am working on the local musicians to see if I can get it performed at a jam session. Those that have heard it are not ducking and dodging me with nearly as much conviction. David F. Cox
