I agree with you 100%.. Simple Things (the song) is in my opinion one
of Amy's BEST EVER!!! I LOVE that song! When my husband and I first
heard it all we said WOW.. this song could put Amy back on the Map..
We felt it could be a huge hit for her.. but then... when you hear the
other songs... they are not on the same level as ST.. Beautiful is
very country (even though it is a beautiful song.. if it were the only
countryish song.. I would have no problem), but then Touch is also
pretty country (not to mention that it is NOT a good song...)but I
guess it had to be (country) since it was obviously written for
Vince.... I don't know Why.. is a nice song.. but it when it gets to
the hook it starts sounding country... again.. a country arrangment on
what could have been a more POP/ROCK sound.. Out in the Open.. is a
song that lyrically, seems to try to hard.. and has that country
thing going on also... Innocence Lost is a great song.. I really
liked it.. little too Irish/Celtic for me..but the song is good enough
and the lyrics are good enough that it gets away with it. Eye to
Eye.. that song needed a different arrangment.. It needed to rock a
little bit more.. but its a good song. At least it is acoustic
without being country. After the Fire.it is way to slow.. at least
the part I heard..but then again I NEVER liked After the Fire.. the
lyrics are good.. but.. Happy.. everyone is saying has an
alternative edge.. WHERE?!?!?! it's a nice song.. but not on the
level of ST.. and I think it could be.. if it had been given a better
arrangment.. something fresh like ST.. Looking for You.. is really
good.. but again.. leaves something to be desired in the arrangment.
I am just really dissapointed... I really think that from now on Amy
will become more and more morphed into Vince.. I don't think she will
do another POP/ROCK CD.. I really think she is going country.. I guess
our loss is their gain.
Unless the 1minute clips I am hearing are COMPLETELY misleading.. this
sounds like a really bad CD.. BTE was very acoustic but not every song
sounded country. With this CD even the non-acoustic songs sound
country.. After the Fire for example doesn't sound country to me..
just acoustic.. just like Carry You (a song I love) was acoustic
without being country.. but it was a good song and could hold its own
as an acoustic.. ATFire is a really bad song (thats why it was never
included in BTE).. But whatever.. I guess everyone here LOVES whatever
Amy puts out.. so thats ok. Just really LOVED ST.. and thought I
would have alot of other songs that would be as Good as ST..
especially since it took SIX YEARS to get this CD together.. I cannot
believe that this is THE BEST OF SIX YEARS WORTH OF
SONGWRITTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF I were her I would scrap the
whole thing and start over.. I'd keep ST as is, and would keep, but
re-arrange Looking For You, Happy, Innocence Lost, Eye to Eye and
Beautiful. Would NOT KEEP Touch, nor After the Fire nor Out in the
Open... and I would add some 3 or 4 more songs.. cause after 6 years
we deserve at least a 14 song CD... but thats just me.
