SHNapster users READ THIS POST!!!

Note: This was posted as a reply to another post, but I felt it should get
it's own post because people need to read this. There is some important info
here that all SHNapster users should read. Adam and the ops should not have
to be defending thier actions to everyone with no recognition or thanks for
maintaining SHNapster for the entire community of 300+ people with 6000-9000
gigs of music shared. You should be thanking them for providing you with the
opportunity to download music. Its a lot of fucking work so give credit
where credit is due!!!

In Adam's defense, the only reason that videos were banned is because it is
the only way to monitor the shared files effectively. Shnapster has TONS of
people and relatively few ops. Since most videos (not ween) are illegal, the
best way to guarantee the preservation of the hub in the longterm is to
filter out all video files with an automated macro. If the hub allowed some
videos and not others, the ops would have to go and look at every person's
list and make sure they were sharing the appropriate items. This is too much
work, and of course people can come back, or additional people can get on
with illegal videos. So there is some risk of the hub being shut down
because of illegal material if any video files are allowed.
Look at what happened to Further! They couldn't control what was being
distributed and had to remove phish. Nobody wants that to happen, and the
only way to keep the Shnapster community going in the longterm is to make it
100% legal no matter what, and the only way to do that is to automatically
filter out people sharing certian types of files (video files, for example)
with a macro. If you share the wrong type of file, you get kicked from the
hub. I'm sure most people would rather download whatever live music they
want in high-quality shn format with no worries about being kicked and
having to resume the download, then insist on sharing video files, even
legal ones.
BY the way, taking care of shnapster is alot of work. Adam and all the other
ops put a hell of a lot of time and effort into the hub to maintain it for
everyone. There is an elaborate system of people all taking care of the hub
and making sure everything is working all the time. If the hub goes down for
some reason, or the computer needs to reboot and people get disconnected for
even a minute there are 10 people sending messages, making calls and logging
into the system to make sure it is working. The ops spend lots of thier
personal time maintaining the quality and functionality of the hub, all for
free.
So I guess what I'm saying is that it's way more complicated than it seems
and give Adam a fucking break and say thanks to him for spending the time
and effort to take care of shnapster so that all of the users can download
music. And stop your bitching. Who the fuck wants to download ween videos
anyway?
