As I see it, Hip Hop music when done properly can be life-altering. I tell anyone that asks me, "why do you read so much?". I answer simply, Hip Hop music as done by many of the acts in the mid-late '80s to the early '90s definitely had a major hand in helping shape my worldview a thirst for knowledge. Other than my parents and grandmother, Hip Hop artists and some of their views were instrumental in me being who I am. If you're of a positive nature, typically, positivity and happiness will most likely follow you. You ever notice(most recently with Beanie Sigel) that most ALL of the contemporary so-called heavyweight MCs are surrounded in controversy at a time when Hip Hop is everywhere? I don't believe it to be a coincidence. Even if you believe that there's a "Hip Hop task force", no one's making them pull the trigger or any of that mess. Whenever there's social commentary needed from a Hip Hop perspective, never would they ask Snoop Dogg or Khia. Hmmm... In short, when Hip Hop is done properly it does help to make you a better person. And so goes you as a person---so goes your life. Akrobatik's "Balance", "Remind My Soul" and "Front Steps" are as deep yet as simple as it gets about the power of a good Hip Hop banger. PEACE!
