Perhaps it is only that the most vocal critics of rap in my circle of friends happen to like rock better than rap and the opera lovers don't bother to check in on the controversy. However, when an entire style of music uses the mantra glorifying "sex drugs and rock and roll" and then criticizes a different style of music for lyrics that say "sex drugs and rappin", all I can do is laugh and wonder when did Mick Jagger and his crew become choir boys"? Which of their (and any other rock bands' songs) perform anything other than misogynistic lyrics? How much different is it for Mick to get on stage and sing The Bitch is Back Vs A Generic Rapper take your pick singing about bitches and hos? And while we are it how much different is it for the Beatles, the Dead and like every other rocker to sing about the joys of being stoned? whether marijuana, lsd, speed etc or alcohol, even? So, just because a rapper sings about Philly Blunts instead of "insert any a rock lyric about weed", this makes the white guy cool but the black guy evil I like both types of music, I listen to rock and rap. If it is a good piece of music, then it is good. If it sux i tune it out
