another philly cat here. i was born in 76 as well...anyways, my first taste of hip hop was when my bro got me raising hell for christmas. i memorized that tape like it was the bible. lived in the burbs but me and this one boh keon smalls, he used to rap to son of byford while i beatboxed. i listened to everything from then on, but we had alot, come to think about it, hearing hip hop, due to YO Mtv Raps, Pump it UP, etc...Power 99 was the only station that played hip hop at the time, then they had Q102 but they stopped playing hip hop in 94? High school wise, Public Enemy was my shit. As I got older, I started getting into the lyric aspect of it,listening to paid in full, criminal minded, etc...I remember hearing alot of people sayin to me, u filipino but u know more rap than so and so. i guess i was lucky since i was raised my first 7 yrs in north philly. we also had a crew, BBP, Bad Boy Posse (hmmm, maybe i should sue Sean Combs). I remember doing the worm all the time, and still can do it. >Growing up in Philadelphia during the late 70s (born in '76) and 80s, >hip-hop was always around.
