This is a bit unusual, but I was not sure where to post this up. I'm a college graduate of 23 and I have an older taste in music. My favorite forms of music are classic rock, 1980s New Wave, and rockabilly. This older material was the first that I was exposed to and I guess it just grew on me. Unfortunately, my peers see me as an enigma because of my music preferences. It was really bad in junior high and high school, but even today, it happens. When I cite my music preferences as classic rock, New Wave, and rockabilly, I almost always get the inevitable question "How old are you?" In an age where other people within my age range listen to alternative rock, rap, hip-hop, and other contemporary music, they view as being behind the times and thus, a freak. More questions that follow up my answer to my favorite music are always, "Why don't you listen to [insert contemporary music genre]?" or "What century are you living in?" I'm certain that I'm not alone in being a younger person listening to older music, but I just want some advice on how to handle these kind of people. Any thoughts?
