Tracking sequence for recording pop music

Now I've started tinkering with recording to my PC via n-Track software.
Is there a standard sequence for laying down tracks, for guitar-based pop music?
Here's the sequence which I lay down tracks at the moment:
1. Create a metronome or MIDI drum track
2. Add rhythm guitar/acoustic
3. Bass
4. Vocals
5. Lead Guitar/keyboards/backing vocals
But I suppose an equally valid way is:
1. Play acoustic + sing a "ghost track"
2. Add drums
3. Bass
4. Wipe the ghost track & add new vocals
etc...
