an academic friend of mine, who doesn't really care for bruce, once told me the exception was "greetings from asbury park", because it was "punk". interesting. I think it's a valid pov, even if the album certainly doesn't fit in with the conventional "punk rock" company. (marsh made the same argument once upon a time, but I don't know, it just seemed more legit coming from my friend. <g> but of course it has been said that dave marsh coined the term "punk rock". ) also interesting to ponder the influence jon "thank god I'm country boy" landau and co. had on bruce, in this respect. cwb (you can take the boy out of the street, but can you take the streets out of the boy?)
