That makes me feel a little better, but Metallica are actually considered
old guard now (amazing as it may seem in that I was almost 30 when Kill Em
All came out)

I was listening to rap yesterday -- it was playing in a car two blocks away.
I often say that if rap is music, then falling off the roof is
transportation.
but seriously folks....
What is sad is that the rock music today is so boring and derivative. I
thought that of Nirvana, and their influence is felt in nearly all of the
rock music I hear today. And the pop stuff is the loud, shrill Mariah
Carey/Whitney Houston style -- and further perpetuated by the American Idol
"winners" who transform the minimalist singing of Lennon's "Imagine" into
something that is overbearing and grandiose.
Nah, rock is dead. I give up. I listen to mostly jazz and classical now,
and am grateful I got to be around for the sixties and early seventies.
