Last summer, I posted to the '50s group a list of the Top 40 Rock & Roll Acts of that decade, according to an old AMERICAN TOP 40 survey I had found on the Web. Well, this weekend, thanks to a miserable headcold, I finally had the time to figure out the Top 40 Rock & Roll Acts of the early '60s "cusp" years. I included only those singles that were on the Billboard Hot 100 between January 1, 1960, and December 31, 1963. As for calculating an artist's points, I did it in as straightforward a manner as I could. A song that peaked at #100 received one point, a #99 hit got two points, etc. The only exception is that I awarded a #1 single 100 points for each week it topped the Hot 100. For example, "He's So Fine" by the Chiffons, which was #1 for four weeks, received 400 points. One final note: I used a fairly liberal definition of "rock 'n' roll" to determine which artists to include! And now, on with the show: 1. ELVIS PRESLEY: 3,688 points 2. BRENDA LEE: 2,530 3. RAY CHARLES: 2,337 4. CONNIE FRANCIS: 2,330 5. CHUBBY CHECKER: 2,129 6. THE FOUR SEASONS: 1,715 7. THE EVERLY BROTHERS: 1,710 8. BROOK BENTON: 1,703 9. RICK NELSON: 1,677 10. DION: 1,663 11.
