They had great fun taking rock and roll to great places it had scarcely dreamed of going, but it always came out pop---and always leaned on rock and roll when they felt insecure. When they needed material, out came the standards. I don't care for their rock and roll songs; they sound fairly garage band. Kansas City is a song that Paul could sing with a fun smile, which made it better. The pop singing in them is the only good part. When they retired the Beatles, they each showed that same terrible insecurity to try and be big shots of rock---something that had little to do with their success, and always sounded pretty bad. voice from the past
