I just got back from seeing Alice Cooper at the Del Mar Fair. Apparantly, Alice filled in at the LAST MINUTE because Meatloaf cancelled for one reason or another. This was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. It was my first time seeing Alice Cooper. The concert was a free one if you sat up in the grandstand, but I didn't want to be a cheapskate, so I purchased a $35 ticket and sat on the 3rd terrace, center stage (which were GREAT seats by the way). The way the terrace was set up at the fairgrounds there are actually tables you sit at with 4 seats, and you are served by a waitress, etc. Since I only got one ticket (wife didn't want to go), I had the WHOLE TABLE to myself!! Anyway, on to the show... Have you seen the "Brutal Planet" DVD?? Well this show was NOTHING like it - it was like 10 times better! - Virtually NO THEATRICS, almost no stage banter, just one GREAT song after another. And what do I mean by that? ALL THE HITS. All hits, except for the new stuff that would "fit in" side by side with the hits (Little things, Gimme). There were no "bathroom break" songs to speak of. And here's something a little interesting: before going to the show, I was thinking to myself: What if he sang some of my favorite, but more obscure songs like "Long way to go" and "Clones" - WELL DAMN HELL IF HE DIDN'T SING BOTH "LONG WAY TO GO" AND "CLONES"!!!!!!!!!!! - I couldn't believe it. Really. About the only thing more I could have asked for from this UNREAL SETLIST was "Model Citizen" - but no complaints!!! Let's see here... some songs he did: Billion Dollar Babies, Schools out, Under my wheels, Desperado, Lost in America, Gimme, Little things, Welcome to my nightmare, Cold Ethel, I'm eighteen, Hello Hurray, Elected, Be my lover, Poison, No more Mister nice guy, Halo of flies, ... and a few other tunes that the name escapes me. I was of course expecting him to do "GO TO HELL" but that was missing. Alice threw 2 canes into the standing crowd below. After the show, I walked down there and tracked down one of the guys and asked, "Did you catch that from the stage" and he beamed proudly, "YEP. SECOND SONG, HELLO HURAY!" - I offered to buy the cane from him (I'd have probably given him $100), but he declined. I guess you just can't buy everything, hopes, dreams, memories.. I didn't pressure him, I just said, OK well if you change your mind come talk to me. I walked and got in line at the concession stand and this Arabic guy comes up to me and says, "Excuse me, were you asking for a pick", he had a pick in his hand and I thought he wanted to sell it to me, so I said, "Naa I just wanted the cane" and he said, "Well I caught a pick, you can have it!" - so I took it, thanked him and shook his hand. AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS PRETTY FUCKING COOL.. Really nice amber pick, and a GREAT souvenier for one of the greatest shows ever. On to the concessions. Compared to some prices I've seen, these were pretty reasonable. I got three shirts (2 XL, and 1 XXL), one Alice Cooper hat, one tourbook, and a "Welcome to my Nightmare" PILLOWCASE! They had 2 other shirts I liked, but not in my size. The shirts were only $25. The tourbooks were only $10. All told, I spent $110 - not bad for all that. http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/lcsboots "I am the strongest woman in the world!" - Chun Li, Street Fighter II
