Who decides on what music is called?
I was just wondering on who decides on what music is called. There are
so many different names for classes of music.
Who has the POWER to come up with these names?
I mean there is:
rock
rock & roll
punk
heavy metal
country
classical
disco
new wave
new age
grunge
jam band
techno
hip hop
southern rock
classic rock
new rock
soft rock
dub
African
I am sure I have not even mentioned 1/4 of the names that are out there.
Who comes up with these names? Corporate big wigs? The groups
themselves? The fans? Radio Jocks?
I just don't know? Where did these names come from and how come the
names stuck?
Were there any other names for music that never made it to main stream?
I am sure there will be new names to come out in the future. Who decides
this?
It is funny, The Grateful Dead could be considered for all the above
names. Maybe not the punk category?

Who comes up with the names for the categories of music?
And what is more bizarre is who was the (I just don't know what word to
use here) to categorize it in what ever category? I mean who say it goes
over in this group of music and this one goes over in that group of
music?
I am surprised they never came up with states music. Like there would be
music for each state. That way it could be known that, that music is
from/represented by that state. Imagine that? that would be freaky. I
guess there is Hawaiian music and that's it. Is there Californian music?
Is there Alaskans music or Florida music. Weird ain't it?
