There are many great musicians on Maui so I'd assume there's plenty of good music too. One guy you might not be familiar with is Don Kauli`a who recently won a Hawaiian Music Award. Don's slack key has become a regular feature at the Annual Maui Slack Key Festival. Here's an email I just received from Don: > I have been at the Hula Grill, Kaanapali Whalers Village, Maui for 8-1/2 > years now. Every Mondays & Tuesdays from 6:30-9:00 pm. Me & Al Kaina play > Ki ho alu from 6:30-7:30pm...then accompany Hula Girl from 7:30-8:30...then > Rock Out All Kinds of Stuff until closing at 9:00pm. > > At the Mariott Wailea, Maui (Outrigger) for the last 5 years > Fridays/Saturdays 6p-9pm Kumu Bar & Grill Poolside. From Dancingcat.com: Live slack key can be seen regularly at the following locations on the Island of Maui: * The Villa Restaurant and solo pool-side at the Westin Maui Hotel, 2365 Kaanapali Parkway, Lahaina, HI 96761, phone 808-667-2525 * The Mauian in Napilli, phone 808-669-6206 * The Hula Grill in Kaanapali, phone 808-667-6636 If you're looking to play or hang out, there's an informal kanikapila/jam every Saturday in Waihe`e Valley. Visit www.taropatch.net/forum if you want details. Hope this helps.
