Lyrics post -
de de Kudaa ke naam pe pyaare - Alam Ara - 1931
Wazir Muhammad Khan - Ferozeshah Mistri / B Irani
Some publication inspired by Kaka Hathrasi used to post
lyrics of film songs, probably with notation, starting
from 1933. They continued with this project for quite
some time (maybe about 10 years). In 1972/73, Hamraaz and
his cohorts got hold of the journal's editions. Some
lyrics were reproduced in the issues of Listeners'
Bulletin. V S Mishra of Bangarmau (spelling?), near Unnau
in UP, was main contributor to the series. I am posting
lyrics of a song in the very first talkie, Alam Ara. But
the post did not come about that easily.
I transcribed a song attributed to Alam Ara in a 1973
issue of LB : 'apane maulaa kii jogan banuungii'. But the
hfgk credited the song to Yahudi Ki Ladki (1933). Hamraaz
has informed me that over the years, people discovered
many stats errors in the Hathras Prakashan's journal. In
1981, lyrics to 6 songs in Alam Ara were published in an
LB issue. The 1930s truly need a micro-rawat if not a
mini-rawat, but certainly any-rawat would be a huge
boost. My humble bit is going to consist of two songs in
Alam Ara, one in Shirin Farhad (1931) and one in Yahudi
Ki Ladki since I have it ready with me.
Aalam Aaraa was released in Mumbai's Majestic Cinema on
14 March 1931. Its print was later destroyed in a fire
and the songs are lost forever. But here are lyrics to
the first-ever Hindi film-song.
