SCORE CARD - EXPLANATION ========================= Thanks to everyone who has replied. All the participants have scored perfect on the test and given the correct answer. Even though none of them have mentioned that they are: Film Fanatics, I have included them in this category and assigned the perfect score of 5 THE ANSWER ========== Film: Laila Majnu (1953) / Staring: Shammi Kapoor and Laila Majnu (1976) / Staring: Rishi Kapoor Song /s: Tere Dar Pe Aaya Hoon Fariyad Le Kar (1st film) / Talat Mehmood ********************* Tere Dar Pe Aaya Hoon Kuchh Kar Ke Jaonga (2nd Film) / Rafi ********************* Correct Answered received from: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Mr. Ashok Dhareshwar Dr. Surjit Singh (Tuufaani Taarzaan) Mr. Srinivas Ganti Mr. Nimish Mr. Balaji Murthy Special thanks to Mr. Kalra for Beta Testing EXPLANATION =========== The first song is generally cataloged under the film: CHOR BAZAAR (1954) The Hindi Film Geet Kosh, Vol 3, 2nd Edition has a footnote, stating that the Talat's song was recorded for the film: Laila Majnu, but was removed from this film and added to: Chor Bazaar. My information and research has yielded a different fact. Both films were Produced and Directed by: P.N. Arora and had Shammi Kapoor in the lead role. While Laila Majnu was under production, P.N. also started the second film: Chor Bazaar (all songs composed by: Sardar Malik) and was released at a later date in 1954. After the song, Tere Dar Pe ... was picturized, P.N. got a novel idea. He made a copy of the negative + related soundtrack and spliced it to the print of Laila Majnu. The result was that the song could be seen in both films. The soundtrack versions and the 78 rpm versions for both films are the same. Laila Majnu was primarily Ghulam Mohammad's project. Out of 14 songs (13 available), only 3 songs (including: Tere Dar Pe ...) were composed by Sardar Malik. The other two being: Baharon Ki Duniya Pukare Tu Aaja and Dekh Li Ae Ishq Teri / Talat + Asha (both) Some Video Tapes of Laila Majnu don't have this song. While, some other Video Tapes (made from different positive print) do have this song. I have an Audio Tape from Advanced Sargam (i.e.: IndianScreen.Com / Mr. Amarjit Singh), titled: Laila Majnu + Yasmin (catalog # A164) The 4th song on side A is: Tere Dar Pe Aaya Hoon / Length: 2:52 minutes There is a small cut in the beginning & the end Record quality: fairly good The tape was made from a video tape (there are some dialogues and the song: Aasman Wale is 4:33 minutes long) It is possible that the songs on this tape are in the same order as they appeared in the film. If so, then those who have the Laila Majnu's video tape can cross-check it: Side A ====== 1 Baharon Ki Duniya 2 Dekh Li Ae Ishq 3 Chal Diya Karvan 4 Tere Dar Pe Aaya Hoon 5 Aasman Wale Teri 6 Yeh Jaan Yeh Imaan 7 Dono Sardaron = Mil Gaya Taqdeer Se 8 Too Mera = Ae anam Yeh Zindagi 9 Yaad Teri Zindagi Ka Side B ====== 21 Ya Bigra Bana De = Aankhon Mein Hai Tu 22 Mere Sarkar Tere Ishq Ki 23 Ya Ilahi Ho Mubaraq 24 Jholi Bhar De = Bhar De Jholi The Yasmin's 4 songs are 78 rpm version from the EP / HMV I also have another tape from the same company, titled CHOR BAZAR / AAB-E-HYAT (Catalog # A0244) The Chor Bazaar songs are from the video tape and has 5 out of total 6 songs. On this tape, the 4th song is: Tere Dar Pe Aaya Hoon / Time: 3:06 minutes (no cut in the beginning or end). Record quality: marginal The listing of the 5 songs are: Side A: ======= 1 Chalta Rahe Yeh Karavan 2 Yeh Duniya Ke Mele 3 Taron Ki Palki Mein Aayi 4 Tere Dar Pe Aaya Hoon 5 Teri Mehfil = Huyi Hum e Nadani Teri Mehfil Mein Aa Bethe The Aab-e-Hayat songs are very poor quality The 78 rpm version of Tere Dar Pe ... is available on: 2 Tape set / Talat Mehmood / Rare Melodies / Tape # 2 / Song # A3 / 3:14 minutes Record Quality: good Advanced Sargam could have copied the song from Chor Bazaar's video tape and added to the Laila Majnu's tape. But that is not the case, becuase Chor Bazaar's audio tape quality is much poorer than that on Laila Majnu The Laila Majnu tape has a cut in the beginning and the end, while on Chor Bazaar tape, the song is complete May be Dr. Surjit Singh can get in touch with Dr. 'Hamraaz' and get some feed back.
