The encyclopedia of Indian cinema tells that there was no other Bengali movie named Shapmochan. There are 6 songs in the 1955 movie - 4 by HemantK himself, one by Shyamal Mitra and a classical duet by Aparesh Lahiri/Pratima Bannerjee 'tribeNii tirtha pathe ke gaahila gaan'. The movie Shapmochan is available online at: http://www.calonline.com/entertain-new/moviesonline.html It is at #8. Some pointers: There were quite a few classical music based movies around the same time period. One hit movie was Dhuli(1953) with some songs by A. T. Kannan. I have seen that movie but do not remember having seen any Hindi songs in it. Juthika Roy sang some songs in it. Yet another classical music based hit was 'Basant Bahar' (no relation to the SJ Hindi movie with the same name) relased around 1955. This movie had some Hindi songs - I think Sandhya Mukherjee sang 'baaju ba.ndh khul khul jaaye' in this movie - not sure though - movie channels do not show this movie at all. Finally, there was the Marathi-Bengali bilingual 'Amar Bhupali' directed by V. Shantaram. I do not know much about this movie except that it had Manna De's first song in a Bengali movie. The songs of this movie are very very rare. -Prithviraj
