it's been catching on for the past year or so starting with the addictive track and then with the eric sermon joint react (not including the bombay the hard way lp's). i always wondered why it took so long to indian music to creep up into hip-hop. there's an endless amount of material out there and with so many indian kids out there you think one guy/girl woulda got the idea that they could stand out from the rest of the producers that were out there and make some good beats too. who knows maybe they did try but people weren't feeling them in the past enough to be put in an album. right time and right place i guess. i thought i'd address the topic since indian singers are starting to get recognized in hip-hop (which I never thought would happen or even be a good fit but fortunatley i was wrong): first up is Panjabi MC - "Beware of the Boys" (Mundian To Bach Ke) http://www.panjabi-mc.com I heard this song way back when it first came out but didn't think much of it since then. then i saw simplemp3s.com rip and release it. then i saw sandboxautomatic.com selling the 12". then i saw it featured on Master T's nationwide hip-hop mixtape at an HMV that really suprised me. to top it all off I heard from one of my friends and later on in this forum that Jay Z did a remix to the song. Damn that's the peak for this song. i'm pretty glad that this song has made such an impact cause this music is what represents bhangra and punjabi music. it's nice to see my culture showcased to the music that i love and it's represented accurately. i'm also surprised that the beat was rappable which i wouldn't of imagined it to be casue of the fast tempo of the music. next up is the Slum Village feat Ms. Jade and Raje Shwari "Disco Remix" i'm feeling this song too. if you compare it to the above mentioned song, the indian music is playing an opposite role. where the panjabi mc's song played the forefront of a hip-hop song. this song plays the background. it blends really well into the rest of the song and still manages to stand out but doesn't sound like it doesn't belong there. the indian singer Raje Shwari is actually on some other tracks that timbaland did including the bounce i booked both tracks in my room at the club. if you guys wanna check them out. here's an article about indian music in hip-hop that pretty much conveys the same thoughts as mine. http://www.hip-hop-reviewz.com/words/words111002.html Reppin the Dirty Dirty, Ganges! Have you noticed the Indian influence in hip-hop? It’s seriously getting insane now, where every single album has at least one Indian influenced song. I knew my culture was dope, but that dope? Well yeah haha! Timbaland sluts the Indian culture like none other and easily does the most with it. Unlike Dj Quik with 'Addictive' he doesn’t steal a whole Indian song, he samples voices and makes his own Indian beats. The beats are so unbelievably dope and sound even phatter with the Indian singers in the background. Timbaland got Raje Swari (Indian singer) to sing a hook on a normal hip-hop beat on the remix to 'Disco'. My god! It’s pure genius. Some other random hip-hop tracks with Indian influence include: J. Timberlake 'What you got' Apathy 'DSL' Slum Village ft. Ms Jade and Raje Shwari 'Disco Remix' Lil Kim ft. Styles 'Get In Touch With Us' Erick Sermon 'React' Jay-Z 'The Bounce' I notice Timbo running this list. Look for Indian hip-hop to continue running shit until someone like Puff Daddy ruins it. peace! "If one ni99a front I'ma make em both pay Cause toniiiiight, we gettin off like O.J." - Q-Tip
