If you want a really good classical guitar for £1000, buy Czech - go there if necessary. You get the equivalent of a £2,500 classical guitar for £1,000 and they know how to make them. Or look for a good used example of someone like Colin Morison (Dundee luthier, excellent instruments, classical specialist). Do not buy a Spanish-made instrument from a retail shop, you are just paying twice the price (and don't take a trip to Spain unless someone tells you exactly who to see; 90 per cent of attractive looking classical guitars sold in Spanish music shops are nothing like as good to play as they look superficially). Or find a specialist classical dealer, I don't know of one in my own area - not that I would call a specialist anyway. David
