I am the pioneer of so many things

My greatest achievement is that I appropriately used
the best of the western and eastern classicism. To
wield a huge orchestra is no joke. In many of my
carnatic songs I have shown an uncanny skill in
organising the orchestral music with a classical
splendour. Can anyone compose a song with both
nadaswaram and synthesizer? I can do it.
On the occassion of my 60th birthday, my good friend
Bally Sagoo came to wish me. We had a long chat on
variety of musical issues. He is one man who
understands music as well as I do. His and my music
style composing is similar. We steal bits and pieces
of popular tunes (my personal favorite group is Abba
from whom I got lot of inspiration) and add our own
orchestra to it (in my case flute and nadaswaram). We
then sell it to the masses. Only difference is I had
the luxury of original lyrics on top of the popular
tunes. As such I came to be known as an original
composer.
Bally told me that I am the pioneer of remix. I
introduced remix when it was not even known. Bally
told me how much I inspired him to take up this line
of career of remixing. But Bally was really upset
about not having a lyricist in his troupe. I had
Vairamuthu's support. Me and Vairamuthu had so many
late night sessions listening to popular tunes. He
would translate the lyrics of the song (He knew 147
languages) into tamil lyrics and I would remix the
song and voila we would have a Tamil film song. Mine
and Vairamuthu's jodi was like David Dhawan and
Govinda jodi. Together we were magic.
We also had a discussion on Bally remixing some of my
songs. Bally was confused as to how he could remix a
remixed song and whether doing so would make it sound
like the original. I have given him some tips. He has
promised me in his next album, he will remix some of
my songs alongside RD Burman's. That would really be a
crowning glory for me. To be mentioned alongside RDB's
name is the pinnacle of achievement for any music
director.
