Such is the Hindi (Bollywood) film industry and the Pakistani version (Lollywood). But there is/was regional filmaking from Maharashtra, Bengal, Telugu and Tamil based industries. Bengali director Satyajit Ray became world famous everywhere but in his own country. Not every film fits the stereotype (just the successful ones I guess). Makes me all the more want to support any attempt to change the stereotype. Don't both the Italians and Spanish directors lament the shortsightedness and narrow vision of film producers in their respective countries? > i got into a discussion with an indian guy about this just the other day. > my question was what about all the other genres -don't indian filmgoers want > to watch them? > his answer was that all these other genres should be left to western > films -indian films should stick to what they do best and what the indian > audience demand. I worked on a Nigerian film some 20 years ago. Very heavily influenced by Bollywood films. Basically got the same answer. Why try? > if you think that hollywood is all about churning out a formula they have > nothing on the indian film industry. Or the pre-1978 H.K. film industry, the pre-1999 Korean film industry or (dare I say it) the pre-1956 British Horror film industry.
