I a very big fan of RDB have no problem accepting that. Obviously the people you are talking about havent heard enough of the others or are trying to compare RDB with the present day composers or even his contemporaries for that matter. Among all, I feel Madan Mohan can easily be crowned the Melody king... I have not heard so many melodious compositions (mostly sung by Lata) from anybody else. > his output was very less). Agreed completely again. But RK, here's the crux of the matter. You by virtue of having heard a lot over such a period of time could make these judgements. ARR or Nadeem Shravan are the choice of the new generation and that's precisely one of the reasons, why re-mixes from erstwhile hits packaged with sufficient sex and violence makes so much money these days. I think you can kiss melody good bye for a long long time. However I personally rate ARR infinitely better then any of his contemporaries (Note: this excludes Illayaraaja :-) ). He has composed reasonably good stuff given the standards today. The first time I heard "Hello Mr. Ethikachhi....blah blah..Padhinettu vaiyasa aachhi"...it had a very different ring to it and I got hooked on to Iruvar. Likewise the songs in Sapnay (Minsaara whatever). I thought "Strawberry kanne....." was a novel extrapolation/experiment of operatic themes in Indian Film Music. Not many have attempted such a thing and gotten away with a hit...That to me is talent and a desire to experiment... I like that in MDs. Oh yes...I prefer to listen to ARR's songs in Tamil as I dont understand quite a lot of the words and lets me concentrate on the composition as a whole. Well, the Hindi/Telugu ones are a different matter. Well...actually that's not true either with song writers mixing up English and others (Spanish in Shakalaka Baby) in the songs. > > My two sons (age 7 and 3) already show a marked preference for ARR songs. > They obviously don't know who he is, but they insist on listening to > his songs when we go out on a long distance. Contrast this with what Anand Milind and Nadeem Shravan have to offer. > > Right now they are in India and I shudder when they will come back, > they will be 'updated' with more of latest ARR trash, which I will > be forced to listen. Good Luck with that. I however think you will do just fine and might like one odd song here and there too. kamesh > > rk- > >
